How Alerts Show Up in the Enigma App

Explore the new Alerts tab to see sightings from your neighborhood, town, state or beyond!
Location Preferences:
To start seeing nearby UFO sightings, enable full location access. This allows us to notify you of sightings wherever you are.
Alert Preferences:
Opt in to what you’re most interested in:
- Nearby Alerts: the latest sightings near your current location. Set your alert radius.
- Featured Alerts: the most intriguing sightings curated by the Enigma Team
- Watchlist (coming soon!): add other places of interest or geographies you want alerts for.
Why Did We Launch Enigma Alerts?
At Enigma, it’s our mission to keep you connected to what’s happening in the sky. Until now, users found recent sightings by sorting by “Most Recent” in our Data tab, or browsing the blinking indicators on the Map. These two methods are still available, but now with Alerts, it’s much easier to find recent sightings of interest.
How We Built It
Our Product and Engineering teams have prepared the app's first fully personalizable experience, enabling skywatchers to tailor alerts to their location and preferences. This included building a robust backend to process geolocation data, monitor reports, and persist user alert settings, all while delivering an intuitive and seamless user experience.
Engage and Interact with Sightings Near You
- Be Part of the Experience: When a sighting occurs near you, get notified instantly and see details like location, time, and video evidence.
- Join the Conversation: Comment and share your thoughts on these nearby sightings. Or bookmark to keep track of your favorites.
- Seen Something Anomalous? If you happen to spot something unusual too, use the Enigma Camera to capture and share your sighting, right from the app.
